Fishing

Kuala Kurau has long been a fishing town, and among keen anglers it is something of a second home. Whether you have fished all your life or have never held a rod, there is somewhere here for you.

Our fishing pond

Guests are welcome to fish in our pond at no charge. If you would like to take your catch home, the following rates apply:

• Puyu (climbing perch) — RM1.00 each

• Keli (catfish) — RM2.00 each

• Tilapia — RM2.00 each

• Haruan (snakehead) — RM2.00 each

• Rohu — RM2.00 each

Rods and bait

We recommend bringing your own rod and bait. If you forget, we sell a complete rod set for RM20.00.

One word of caution

Catfish have a sharp spine on the head. Please take care when removing the hook.

Sea and kelong fishing packages

At Kuala Gula and Kuala Kurau we work with local boatmen (tekong) who know where the fish are — jenahak, kerapu and stingray among them.

Advance booking is required, at least 10 days before check-in. Each package takes a maximum of 4 people and includes one night's accommodation at Kurau Inn Farmstay.

Package A — sea fishing · RM600

Fishing at sea around Kuala Kurau or Kuala Gula, aboard a boat with your tekong.

• Day one — check in 3.00–5.00 pm. Shellout dinner at The Pantry in the evening.

• Day two — check out 6.30–7.00 am, then out with the tekong from 7.00 am to 6.00 pm.

Breakfast and lunch are your own arrangement. Please bring your own tackle and bait.

Package B — kelong fishing · RM400

Fishing from the kelong on Sungai Kurau.

• Day one — check in 3.00–5.00 pm, with a welcome drink. Shellout dinner at The Pantry in the evening.

• Day two — check out 6.30–7.00 am, then at the kelong from 7.00 am to 6.00 pm.

Breakfast and lunch are your own arrangement. Please bring your own tackle and bait.

Package C — for beginners · RM600

Made for guests with no fishing experience who would like to try it — in the paddy fields, along the shore, or out on a boat at sea.

• Day one — check in from 3.00 pm, with a welcome drink. From 4.00 to 6.00 pm, a briefing on fishing around Kurau Inn, along Ban Pecah beach, and on the river and at sea. Shellout dinner at The Pantry in the evening.

• Day two — breakfast at The Pantry from 7.00 to 8.00 am, then out on the boat on Sungai Kurau from 9.00 to 11.00 am for a taste of sea fishing. Check out by 12.00 noon.
